The King and Queen of Spain conmemorated today in Seville the 500th anniversary of the first expedition around the world, which began in Sevilla on August 10, 1519.

This exhibit displays very interesting testimonies of this dangerous and exceptional expedition lead by captain Fernando Magallanes with 5 naves and 239 men at the start.
King Felipe VI and Queen Leticia inaugurated the exhibit “El viaje más largo” (“The longest voyage”) in the Archives of the Indies, organized by Acción Cultural Española and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Magallanes was killed in the battle of Mactán in the Phillipine islands and Captain Juan Sebastian El Cano lead the expedition from there, returning to Seville after three years with 17 survivors on board the only ship remaining nave, nao Victoria.
